About

Lisa Stone Barnes, a Nash County native, is an active member of the community, and a business professional. She is currently serving her first term as North Carolina House District 7 Representative. Previously, Lisa served two terms on the Nash County Board of Commissioners where she worked to promote quality of life while also keeping taxes low for citizens. Prior community and public service engagements include serving as a member of the Nash County Planning Board, the Rocky Mount Farmers Market Board, and the Southern Nash High School Athletic Boosters Board.

Lisa began her career in the legal field as a real estate paralegal with a private firm where she developed a love for, and interest in, the legal system. She also worked for a short time in the Rocky Mount Planning and Development Department. Lisa is a graduate of the UNC School of Government’s Advanced Leadership Corps program and is a mentor with the Local Elected Leaders Academy.

Combining her interest in the legal system with her passion for public service, she worked as the Republican judge at Coopers Precinct from 2006-2012 and has volunteered with prison ministry services at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women. She also volunteers with Dew4Him Ministries, a non-profit organization which provides leadership training and bible study classes for women of all ages and denominations.
